When I started blogging several years ago, I never thought that social media would become such an integral part of my life. Through Blogging, Facebook and Twitter I’ve met some of the most awesome people I like to call dear friends and we’ve never even met in person.
When I began Night Reads this past summer, I intended it to be a place where I could journal my thoughts about what I was reading much like I used to do in “the olden days”, but in a much more modern way. I’ve kept reading journals for as long as I could remember; old-school spiral notebooks filled with my chicken scratch, pictures torn from celebrity magazines of who I imagined would be certain characters if said book was ever immortalized in film, and little snippets of my own writing that just turned out to be plain gibberish.
I’ve always loved reading. I read when I wake up in the morning, I read as I eat lunch (as that red greasy spot in my copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire can attest to the deliciousness of that night’s lasagna), I read as I’m bathing my children, and yes, I even read on the toilet (and don’t tell me you’ve never done that, I know you have!). I’m fortunate that my sons seem to have developed a love of the written word that rivals my own, and as much as my oldest will tell you that he hates it, the light shining from under his bedroom door at night as he reads his Captain Underpants and Magic Treehouse books tells me differently.
Social media has influenced me more than anything else the last few years in helping me choose the next book to grace my shelves or the space on my Kindle. I’m so glad to have met all of you in the process!
