Jenifer Taylor is content with her life, dull and boring as it is. Being absent from the dating scene means she doesn’t have to deal with the major trust issues she has with men that stem from a controlling and aggressive ex-boyfriend and an absentee father. She’s happy being alone, sharing her life with her friends and family.
When Jeni starts a typical day in the big city of Mornington Vale, California, it turns from bad to worse when she’s involved in a chain collision on her way to work.
Her world changes forever that day because she meets Aiden O’Connell, the billionaire son of Alistair O’Connell, who owns Mornington Vale’s largest financial corporation. Aiden is an up-and-coming young businessman who's ready to take on the vice presidency of his father’s company. He is the good son, and it’s imperative to Alistair that Aiden succeed and follow in his footsteps. Life for Aiden involves working hard and not much else.
After the accident, however, Aiden’s world changes as well. He finds Jeni irresistible and instantly pursues her. With some coaxing, she eventually agrees to a date, and the attraction is mutual.
Jeni finds love quickly with Aiden, but trusting him is another issue. When to trust is tested in many different ways but comes to a head when Aiden is investigated for a serious crime. As her trust issues spark, she is forced to go through a journey of self-discovery.
She must decide once and for all whether she trusts the man she loves when she’s asked the ultimate question: “Do you trust me?”

Beautiful Player Q & A With Christina Lauren
Title: Beautiful Player (Beautiful #3) Author: Christina Lauren Publication Date: October 29, 2013 Where to buy: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Mysterious Galaxy, Simon & Schuster, Books A Million, Powell’s Books, Indie Bound or The Kings English. |
A bombshell bookworm. A chronic Casanova. And a lesson in chemistry too scandalous for school.
When Hanna Bergstrom receives a lecture from her overprotective brother about neglecting her social life and burying herself in grad school, she’s determined to tackle his implied assignment: get out, make friends, start dating. And who better to turn her into the sultry siren every man wants than her brother’s gorgeous best friend, Will Sumner, venture capitalist and unapologetic playboy?
Will takes risks for a living, but he’s skeptical about this challenge of Hanna’s…until the wild night his innocently seductive pupil tempts him into bed- and teaches him a thing or two about being with a woman he can’t forget. Now that Hanna’s discovered the power of her own sex appeal, it’s up to Will to prove he’s the only man she’ll ever need.
Here it is! An EXCLUSIVE Q & A with Christina and Lauren, the authors behind the Beautiful Bastards you all know and love. Beautiful Player, the final full length novel of the series, will hit shelves and e-readers tomorrow!
Night Reads asked for submissions from readers between September 25 through October 29, choosing the 5 best questions for the ladies to answer.
Who would you rather be stuck in a fallout shelter with; Bennett, Max, or Will? Why?
Lo: Bennett is a good choice, because he’d stay in there long enough to relieve some tension (ifyouknowwhatImean) and then bust out of there and demand that someone fix the problem so he can go back to work. Of course Max would be good, too, because if there is anyone you want to be with when things get stressful, it's the relaxed, happy sugar of Max Stella. (And his three fingers.) But I’m going to go with Will, because he’s a scientist and could probably build contraptions to determine whether the air is safe outside. Also, he’s got stamina and we might be in there for a while.
Christina: If it's like the zombie apocalypse and there's a chance for survival give me Will. If I just have a few hours to kill I’m gonna wax the floor with Max like whoa. But if we’re all dying, then give me Bennett, because I’m going out with a bang.
Do you know anyone in your real lives that you draw on for character personality for either the men or the women in your books?
It’s funny to see different aspects of each of them in us. There are some ways that Lo is a lot like Bennett and Chloe—impatient and ambitious. She has some of Max’s openness and generosity with affection, and Hanna/Will’s analytical view of the world. Christina is patient like Sara, but surprisingly has a lot of Chloe’s fire in her, too. And Christina definitely has Hanna’s easy, everyone-is-a-friend approach to life. It’s probably been easier to draw on aspects of ourselves than it is to try to model the characters on someone in particular.
Will the Beautiful Bastard audiobook ever be re-done with a male narrator doing Bennett's chapters? Because, hello, Sebastian York!
There aren’t plans to as of right now, but oh boy do we agree. He’s an amazing Bennett, isn’t he? Lucky for us, he’s also an amazing Will in BEAUTIFUL PLAYER
How did you decide on Bennett, Max and Will's professions? Did it take some researching or were you already familiar with the profession?
Bennett needed to be in some sort of generic boss role, and his role in marketing seemed to add a layer of creativity to his business side. We wanted Max to also be in business, but it was sort of fun for us to imagine a venture capitalist who is passionate about art of all things. It seemed a little bit of a fun dichotomy to write, but we got help from friends on the art side of things. And Will . . . well, Lo is a scientist and so we knew we had to write a couple of characters in that world because nothing is more fun than writing geeks falling in love.
When you write, is one of you the male character and the other the female character? Or is it a collaborative effort?
It’s a completely collaborative effort. Sometimes we start writing one or the other, but in the end, we both go through each paragraph, sentence, word so carefully that it never is just one voice or one author.
Super special thanks to Christina Hobbs, Lauren Billings, and Kristen Dwyer from Simon and Schuster for this wonderful opportunity!

GIVEAWAY WINNER! $5 Amazon Gift Code!
When I started blogging several years ago, I never thought that social media would become such an integral part of my life. Through Blogging, Facebook and Twitter I’ve met some of the most awesome people I like to call dear friends and we’ve never even met in person.
When I began Night Reads this past summer, I intended it to be a place where I could journal my thoughts about what I was reading much like I used to do in “the olden days”, but in a much more modern way. I’ve kept reading journals for as long as I could remember; old-school spiral notebooks filled with my chicken scratch, pictures torn from celebrity magazines of who I imagined would be certain characters if said book was ever immortalized in film, and little snippets of my own writing that just turned out to be plain gibberish.
I’ve always loved reading. I read when I wake up in the morning, I read as I eat lunch (as that red greasy spot in my copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire can attest to the deliciousness of that night’s lasagna), I read as I’m bathing my children, and yes, I even read on the toilet (and don’t tell me you’ve never done that, I know you have!). I’m fortunate that my sons seem to have developed a love of the written word that rivals my own, and as much as my oldest will tell you that he hates it, the light shining from under his bedroom door at night as he reads his Captain Underpants and Magic Treehouse books tells me differently.
Social media has influenced me more than anything else the last few years in helping me choose the next book to grace my shelves or the space on my Kindle. I’m so glad to have met all of you in the process!
So last month I decided to create a Facebook Page for this blog and decided, “What the heck? Let’s have some fun and make more friends at the same time!” Having a $5.00 Amazon gift code floating around that I’m doing nothing with (can you believe that?) seemed like a good way to bribe (yes, I said bribe) you all into being new friends! Hey, I was that book nerd girl in the school library that had very few friends as a child, so no, I’m not above bribery. Just ask my kids!
To that end, the winner of the first Giveaway ever on Night Reads is:
Congratulations to Lee Todd!!! Please send the e-mail address associated with your Amazon account to nightreadsblog@gmail.com to claim your $5.00 Amazon Gift Code. You have 48 hours to respond before another winner is picked.
Gift code will be sent on Friday, September 27, 2013!
PLEASE keep liking and sharing; you never know what I might pull out of my hat next!

A note from author Daisy Prescott about National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Instead of my usual Feature Friday post, I thought it would be a better idea to remind you all that September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. It’s as important in the month of September as it is in the next month and the month after that one that every woman is screened regularly for all types of female cancers, including Ovarian Cancer.
A personal note from Daisy Prescott!
“As you may or may not know, September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Ovarian cancer, like all cancers, sucks. It especially sucks because I lost a friend to the disease last October. ALE, as she is known to many, was the inspiration for Lizzy in Geoducks. And like Lizzy, she died way too young from fucking cancer. Readers may remember Lizzy as the friend who died five years before Geoducks takes place. She makes a few cameos in the book, including being the brunt of a Kevin Costner corpse joke that ties in with The Big Chill.
I'm rambling.
In honor of ALE and Lizzy, and the numerous other women in this country to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I'm donating 50% of my royalties in September to Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Both ebook and paperback.
Let's pretend it's September 1st and I'm starting this campaign on time...
Buy the book, gift the book. Let's raise some money for ovarian cancer research and kick cancer's ass.”
Added bonus, Geoducks' ebooks will be on a flash sale this weekend for 99 cents!
If you don’t have this book already, get it. You’ll love it as much as I do and it’s for a great cause, National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. If you already have a copy, that’s fantastic! Leave her a review at Amazon or on Barnes and Noble and then gift a copy to a friend!

Pet Peeve of the Week: A Great Editor Makes a GREAT Book
As the indie publishing market grows, it seems there are more and more self-published and small market publishers flooding the market, both in print and in e-books.
But is the path these new authors taking really better?
In many ways it can be. By self-publishing and using a smaller imprint publisher, the author has more control creatively about how a book is perceived by the public, as well as taking advantage of word of mouth advertising that some of the BIG PUBLISHERS don’t have access to.
One thing I have noticed as of late is that in the author’s rush to get out a new book, the editing suffers. I’m not talking about how a plotline advances or character and story development, but instead I'm referring to the little things; missing words in a sentence, misplaced quotation marks, not continuing character dialogue correctly, and YES (!) even misspellings!
This post is in no way calling out particular authors, just a random (or not so random, I guess) observation.
Here’s one instance:
In a passage in a book I read recently, the author describes the clothes of the characters. She is wearing sweats and he is wearing jeans. As they start to undress, he says that her jeans need to come off.
Umm.
She is wearing sweats and he is wearing jeans. Remember?
As sexy times start heating up between the two, she notices his *ahem* bulge growing beneath his sweatpants.
She is wearing sweats and he is wearing jeans. Remember?
Another instance occurred using a quotation mark in the wrong place; three appeared altogether in the same sentence. One before the dialogue tag, one at the beginning of the dialogue itself, then at the closing.
I know it sounds like I’m the BIG BAD BOOK NAZI, but I’m really not.
It just disappoints me that it seems some authors tend to skip on paying for good editors. I get it. It’s an expense that you don’t think you need, but you do. It really ruins the enjoyment of a story you love as a reader when you’re suddenly interrupted by something so simple to start reading critically instead of with enjoyment.
I also think a lot of editors are just running these manuscripts through a spell and grammar check and not taking the time to comb through in detail. These authors deserve the type of editing they are paying you for; authors do not need to be robbed by a scam-artist.
I’ve discussed this at length with my book club. I tend to read more indie or lesser-known books than they do, so I tend see these things frequently.
Author friends, do yourself a favor: pay for a GOOD editor.
Editors, do yourself a favor: EDIT THE MANUSCRIPT.
Now I realize I’m probably going to get a lot of shit for this, but it needs to be said. At least by me.
I know I’m not perfect; I know I make a ton of mistakes myself, especially here on this blog. But let’s be real; wouldn’t you rather sit down with a yummy drink and a deliciously fantastic novel and read with abandon, rather than have to stop and start and get frustrated at a story that’s great, but needs work?

Blog Tour - Excerpt and Giveaway: Between Faith and Fear by J.A. Dennam
Friday, August 30, 2013
YES I’M STILL HERE!
So I got an e-mail the other day asking me why I hadn’t had an update in a week other than last week’s Tuesday Tomes and Feature Friday posts.
Did I flounce books? Did I fail at reviewing? Did I give up on life?
Life happened.
Basically.
For the last few weeks I’ve been “job huntin’” and been busy with back to school, but mostly…
Nothing I’ve been reading has appealed to me AT ALL.
Zip, zero, zilch
Nada.
Yes, I have TONS of great books on my Kindle that need to be read but I have this really nasty habit of reading things in the order that I put them on my Kindle, so I haven’t gotten to the good stuff yet.
Trust, I’m not that OCD about most things, but I am about reading, because I have so much material to read that if I don’t read it in order I get confused about what I have and haven't read and I could go on and on like this sentence and make excuses, but… yeah, that.
So while I whittle through my TBR pile this Labor Day weekend, I hope you all have a safe one. I’ll be back on Monday AS SCHEDULED!
Promise!
